The Swiss ski season lasts from December until the end of March. The ski destinations are not so much ski resorts, as towns in their own right, and therefore offer great facilities. With such mountains as the Matterhorn, and the iconic resorts of Klosters and St. Moritz, Switzerland is up there with the best. Facilities, including those for children, are very good, ski schools are excellent and cuisine is superb. When it comes to scenery and picture postcard villages, Switzerland is hard to beat.

Switzerland has great appeal for summer visitors. The mountains hold promise for walkers, climbers and mountain cyclists. There are numerous marked trails which distinguish walks for differing levels of fitness. The lifts that run in summer means that all visitors can reach the mountain tops and enjoy magnificent views. The foothills and strolls around the lakes are ideal for those who take a slower pace. The lakes offer a variety of watersports and also excursions to other villages and towns. River cruises are a very pleasant way to explore the country.

If your free time is limited a city break may be just the ticket. Berne, the capital, is a beautiful city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its medieval centre is well preserved with a clock tower whose bell has been keeping time since the thirteenth century. Lausanne, overlooking Lake Geneva, with its gothic cathedral, its museums and galleries is another jewel in the Swiss crown.

Whever you go in Switzerland, you are assured of quality. A great pride is taken in the standard of accommodation and in the generous hospitality given to visitors. The cleanliness of the cities and lack of litter is noticeable. Swiss cuisine is is associated with cheese with the most popular dishes being fondue and raclette. Another national dish is rosti, potato which is thinly sliced and pan fried. The Italian influence is seen in pasta dishes and in the number of pizzarias. Local wines from vineyards around Lake Geneva are very pleasant. The most popular Swiss Liqueur is kirsch made from cherries.
